In the forthcoming nonpartisan race for Columbia County Board of Supervisors District 6, former Columbia County District Attorney Tim Henney is set to compete against Jacob A. Leland. The election is scheduled for April 2. The position was previously held by Eric Shimpach, who resigned in October last year.

In a recent vote, Henney secured 52% of the votes, while his competitors Leland and Jill Kelly received 30% and 18%, respectively.

Henney expressed his thoughts on the current state of democratic institutions during an interview with WiscNews. "I think one of the big things these days, maybe not so much in Columbia County, but in general, people have a loss of confidence in democratic institutions," he said. "I think you maintain confidence in those institutions by making sure that they are open, honest, honorable, and by allowing people to easily see what is happening and why it is happening. They may agree or disagree, but they are not being deceived, and nothing is being done behind their backs."

Henney's political career includes serving as Columbia County's District Attorney from 1997 to 1999 and as Court Commissioner from 1986 to 1990. Since leaving public office in 1999, Henney has been practicing law at a private firm. He narrowly missed out on a seat on Columbia County's Circuit Court in 2011 when he received only 48% of the vote. Henney completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The Columbia County Board of Supervisors comprises 28 members who are responsible for various county matters such as adopting a county budget, passing county ordinances and resolutions, setting policies, and overseeing county facilities among other duties according to information available on Columbia County's website.
