State Representative Alex Dallman has introduced Assembly Bill 1090 (AB 1090), aimed at prohibiting public entities from contracting with certain U.S. foreign adversaries such as China, Russia, and Iran. Dallman emphasized the importance of safeguarding Wisconsinites from potential threats posed by technology from these countries, stating, "The State of Wisconsin should not be purchasing any technology from foreign countries who want to undermine the United States."

Dallman's bill comes in response to the State of Wisconsin's significant spending on Chinese-owned technology, amounting to nearly $5 million in recent years. This expenditure has raised concerns about the vulnerability of Wisconsinite's data and infrastructure to infiltration.

The Representative underscored the necessity of such legislation by highlighting the active threats posed by countries like China and Russia, stating, "This is a commonsense bill that will protect our country and Wisconsin from real threats that are happening every single day by adversary governments like the People’s Republic of China and Russia."

Nine other states have already implemented similar measures to restrict the purchase of technology susceptible to infiltration and posing risks to research, data, and financial information. Dallman expressed pride in leading this initiative, aiming to shield the state from potential security breaches and uphold national interests.

Representative Alex Dallman, who serves Wisconsin's 41st Assembly District, including parts of Green Lake, Marquette, Adams, Columbia, Sauk, and Waushara counties, was re-elected in November 2022. He currently holds a position on the influential Joint Committee on Finance.
